Hello

My name is Habiba Salem

As an Egyptian-Canadian artist, I gather much of my inspiration from personal experiences, the environment, and the cultures around me. My experiences also help me realize it is through art that I feel the best at expressing and understanding myself, my identity and experiences, and the best way to communicate with others when words are not enough.

While my recent artworks are a highly personal reflection of myself, I am always looking for an opportunity to translate what I experience into art. Although I have particular preferences that I keep returning to, I have experience in various mediums such as acrylic, oil, pastel, embroidery, photoshop&illustration, photography, and filming. I can also prepare my own canvases. I aspire to continue experimenting with different media and new approaches and techniques.

At the University of Toronto, I majored in visual studies and architecture with a minor in art history. I created artworks and designs and researched various topics within art and architecture history, including urban and landscape architecture. I am detail-oriented and passionate about exploring and expanding my perspectives and sharing my findings with others.

My art currently focuses on creating expressive portraits that reflect peoples' identities and interests with acrylic paint, vibrant colours, different materials, and texture.
